The HCG Diet

Introduction to HCG

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone secreted by the placenta of a pregnant woman. It is the earliest sign of conception. It can be detected as early as five days after implantation of the fertilized egg and is the most reliable test of pregnancy. The role of this hormone in pregnancy is to mobilize nutrients from the mother to the developing fetus. You will realize that women gain weight during pregnancy so as to have adequate reserves for the embryo. The problem is that this weight gain is permanent if nothing is done. Ability of the hormone HCG to sequester nutrients from the mother to the fetus forms the secret behind its use as an important dieting tool.

The Mechanism Involved In HCG Diet

During pregnancy HCG mobilizes fat from the maternal belly, the hips and the buttocks and transports it to the fetus via the placenta. The fat in other areas such as the face and under the skin (structural fat) is unaffected by this process. This action triggers the mother’s brain to increase appetite (hence food intake) and craving for certain food types relevant to the baby’s requirements. This interesting action afforded by HCG can be harnessed to work for non-pregnant overweight women and overweight men with desire to lose weight. Extensive research on this topic has been done since 20th century and has proven its efficacy. It is supported by testimonials of those who have effectively lost weight while on HCG diet. HCG is available as an injectable or oral preparation.

This is how it is done;

Phase 1:  Build up your fat reserves by ensuring unrestricted intake of food for two days while initiating HCG under-the-tongue drops or injection. This phase sensitizes your brain to the presence of circulating HCG and the fat you take help in its distribution to the fat deposits.

Phase 2: During this phase a 500-calorie diet which consists of vegetables, fruits along with two meals of 3.5 oz. of protein are given. This is combined with simultaneous ingestion of HCG. In this phase an average of 1-2 pounds is shed on a daily basis. This is to continue until the desired weight is reached.

Phase 3: Here is where you adopt new living style by maintaining the recommended diet. You can eat as much as you please, but eliminate sugars and starch from your diet. You need to continue with the 500-calorie diet for two days when starting with phase 3 to allow your system to be cleared of all HCG.

The advantages of using HCG diet
